Police: Man Attacked Woman, Stabbed Man

— Police arrested a Springdale man who reportedly broke into his ex-girlfriend’s apartment on Sunday and stabbed a man.

Robert Matthews, 26, of 2677 Kasey Ave., Apt. B, faces felony charges in connection with aggravated residential burglary, first-degree terroristic threatening and two counts of aggravated assault, according to reports.

Fayetteville police were called to a disturbance at an apartment on Valley Lake Drive just before 9:30 a.m. Sunday. According to an arrest report, officers followed a trail of blood to an apartment, where they found a man with a stab wound to his arm.

A woman told police that her ex-boyfriend, Matthews, cut the man with a knife, the report said.

Matthews called the woman three times that morning, but she didn’t answer. She later heard a knock on her door, police said, but neither she nor her roommate answered. Matthews kicked in the door and began punching the woman in the face, police said.

Police said Matthews wrestled a man inside the home to the ground. He then grabbed a knife from the kitchen and began swinging it. Investigators said Matthews cut the man on the arm. The man then left the apartment in search of help, police said.

The woman’s roommate said she called 911, but Matthews punched her in the face and took her phone away.

Matthews was arrested Tuesday and taken to the Washington County Detention Center, where he was being held without bond Wednesday.
