Hogs anticipating Ficociello’s return

— Arkansas will take a .312 team batting average through eight games into this weekend’s Coca-Cola Classic, where the No. 2 Razorbacks open against Arizona State at 5 p.m. Thursday in Surprise, Ariz.

“Right now we’re swinging it pretty well,” Razorbacks outfielder Joe Serrano said. “It’s kind of crazy thinking what more we can add to this lineup.”

But the Razorbacks know they can add another big bat with the anticipated return of junior Dominic Ficociello, who batted .311 with 91 RBI in the previous two seasons.

Ficociello, who is making the switch to second base this season after making the All-SEC Defensive Team at first base, said he is hopeful of making his 2013 debut after being sidelined by a strained oblique muscle on his left side.

“It’s getting better,” Ficociello, a switch-hitter, said after Tuesday’s practice. “It doesn’t bother me swinging right-handed at all. It doesn’t really bother me doing anything other than swinging
