Hobbs Celebrating Leopold at Saturday Event

Family activities are scheduled Saturday at Hobbs State Park-Conservation Area in celebration of the life and career of Aldo Leopold who helped shape conservation and the modern environmental movement, according to a news release.

Leopold wrote “Sand County Almanac,” and has been described as “a major influence on American attitudes toward our natural environment,” according to the release.  

The schedule:

• 10 a.m.-2 p.m.: Kid’s activities, make/take bird feeders and tree necklaces

• 10–11:30 a.m.: Dutch oven demonstration

• 10 a.m.: “Reading the Woods” (short trail hike)

• 10-11:15 a.m.: Readings from “Sand County Almanac”

• 10:30 a.m.: Mother Nature Reads “Hiding in Plain Sight – Camouflage,” followed by nature craft

• 11 a.m.: Outdoor journaling

• 1– 2 p.m.: Readings from “Sand County Almanac”

• 2:15 p.m.: Showing of “Green Fire: Aldo Leopold and a Land Ethic for Our Time,” a documentary about Leopold’s life and his influence
