History Day Planned At College

— NorthWest Arkansas Community College will host almost 400 fourth- through 12th-grade students from 14 area schools in the History Day District 10 Competition on Saturday.

All activities will be on the campus in Bentonville. Students will compete in such categories as research paper, exhibit, performance, website and documentary, according to a college news release.

The public is invited to tour two exhibit halls of student work between 3 and 4 p.m. Student work will be on display in Room 108 of the Student Center and in Room 1116 in Burns Hall, according to the release.

An awards ceremony will be held at 4 p.m. in White Auditorium of Burns Hall. More than $10,000 in scholarships, cash and prizes will be awarded, according to the release.

Winning entries advance to state competition April 20 at the University of Central Arkansas in Conway.

The college first hosted the History Day competition in 2012. Jami Forrester, a professor of history at the college, is the event coordinator.
