Barton Signs With JBU

— Rogers High senior Trevor Barton signed a national letter of intent to play golf at John Brown University on Tuesday afternoon.

Barton said a combination of academics and a strong golf program led him to the Siloam Springs school.

“I just felt called to go to JBU,” Barton said. “I definitely wanted to play golf in college, and I think it is God’s plan for me to go to JBU. I’m going to get to continue to play golf while getting a good education.”

Barton won medalist honors at seven of the Mounties 11 matches. He then finished third at the Class 7A Tournament with a 2-over 74. Barton won a playoff for the third place finish at state and that allowed him to be the first Mounties golfer to qualify for the Overall Tournament since Jay Houk made back-to-back appearances in 1998 and 1999.

Barton didn’t have a sub-80 round until the Overall Tournament, which featured the top 21 golfers from the state’s seven classifications. Barton shot an 82 for a seventh place finish.

“I know I’m going to have to get a lot better,” Barton said. “I’m looking forward to putting more time into my golf game.”
