Van Buren police seek robbery clues

Van Buren police were looking at evidence trying to identify a man who robbed a convenience store at gunpoint Sunday night and who told the clerk he had a bomb that he would detonate if she called the police, according to a police news release.

The release said a man wearing a mask entered the Pointer Express at 3915 Kibler Road at 10:18 p.m., pointed a gun at the clerk and demanded money. The clerk complied and the man fled with an undisclosed amount of money, police said.

Police spokesman Detective Jonathan Wear said there was no evidence of a bomb at the store.

The man left the store andheaded west, police said. Officers responding to the scene were unable to locate a suspect, but a tracking dog from the Fort Smith Police Department gave investigators a general direction the suspect took.

The male suspect was described as between 5 feet 10 inches and 6 feet tall, weighing 175-200 pounds and wearing blue coveralls, a black hat with white lettering and an olive green mask, according to the release. Wear said the race of the man couldn’t be determined since he was clothed head to foot.

Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to call the Van Buren Police Department at (479) 474-1234.
