Rogers Police Probe Shot-Out Windows

Tuesday, February 26, 2013

— Someone shooting a pellet or BB gun has broken out windows across Rogers, according to police.

Police released a list of addresses Monday with glass damaged on four different nights. According to the release, incidents occurred on Feb. 15, Feb. 20 and Feb. 21. Another business at 1000 W. Poplar St. was damaged Sunday, said Keith Foster, public information officer.

Four vehicles, a residence and Stop & Shop, 1203 S. Monte Ne Road, had windows shot out Feb. 15.

A vehicle and Stop & Shop had windows shot out Feb. 20 and police identified three schools and at least a dozen other connected incidents from Feb. 21.

Surveillance footage tells him what time his business was hit, but not much else, said Kirit Modi, owner of Stop & Shop. At 1:01 a.m. Feb. 16 a camera first recorded the damage Modi discovered when he went to work the next day. At first, he thought it was a break-in, but the glass was the only damage. It will cost him about $3,200 to replace two doors and two windows.

“Still, I have two broken windows,” Modi said.

The phone rang about 2:30 a.m. Feb. 21, said Myra Moran, owner of Trolley Line Book Shop, 110 W. Walnut St. Police list Moran’s shop as one damaged Feb. 21. The tiny holes in the window are from a BB gun, Moran said, but they have been there since before she set up the bookstore there.

Time stamps from surveillance cameras and alarms put most of the downtown incidents in a time frame from the night of Feb. 20 and into the morning of Feb. 21, Foster said. Police believe the locations are linked because the damage could have been caused by a BB or pellet gun. Some of the windows have a small, circular hole, he said.

“Most all of these have been the BB holes,” Foster said.

Also damaged were windows at Castor’s Car Care, 300 S. First St. The double-pane windows are still standing, but the view has changed.

“You look out and it looks like it’s just raining,” said Kim Sims, office assistant at the business.

Several neighboring buildings had broken or damaged windows.

The glass at Castor’s will be replaced later this week, Sims said. Employees looked, but they never found a BB. The hole, however, is there, near the top of the window.

One of the incidents included burglary of a school building. At the Annex, 2922 S. First St., a window was broken and six computers with an estimated value of $6,500 were stolen, Foster said. That was the only location connected with the shootings where items were stolen.

“It doesn’t look like they ever got out of that room,” he said.

Police are piecing together surveillance video from different locations, but are asking residents to call if they have information that could help. Tipsters can call the Rogers Police Department at 479-621-1172.
