UA student hospitalized with possible alcohol poisoning

A 19-year-old University of Arkansas student was transported to Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayetteville on Saturday with possible alcohol poisoning, said Lt. Gary Crain, a spokesman for the UA Police Department.

Crain said the male student was still in the hospital Monday morning. Police were waiting for more information before deciding whether to begin an investigation.

Crain said members of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity had transported the student to the hospital, but it wasn’t known Monday if he had consumed alcohol at the fraternity house.

Crain said an employee of Washington Regional called UA police at 3:30 p.m. to tell them about the situation.
