Two Men Accused Of Shooting At Car

— Two Rogers men were in the Benton County Jail on Sunday, arrested on charges of attempted capital murder after police said shots were fired at a car Friday night.

Douglas Blake Huston, 18, of 3409 W. Chestnut St., was booked into the county jail at 5:44 p.m. Saturday in connection with attempted capital murder, a class A felony; and first-degree discharge of a firearm from a car and a terroristic act, both class B felonies.

Robert Aaron Thomas, 18, of 1204 W. Oak St., was booked into the county jail at 4:51 a.m. Saturday. He was arrested in connection with attempted capital murder, discharge of a firearm from a car and a terroristic act. He also faces misdemeanor charges of driving while intoxicated, minor in possession and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Rogers police responded to a call Friday night concerning a shooting at the intersection of South 15th and West Cypress streets, according to court documents. The caller reported someone shot or hit the car she was in, but then reported a bullet hole in the car’s seat, according to an 11:52 p.m. dispatch report. Police arrived and learned the reporting callers were two juveniles — a boy and a girl.

Police found a bullet hole near the top right side of the driver’s seat and then found a .45-caliber bullet, the affidavit states.

The boy told police he and the girl were driving east in the 2000 block of West Walnut Street when their car came up beside a dark-colored, Nissan Pathfinder in the outside lane. The boy said he heard a “pop” and the back glass of his car broke. The boy said he turned around in the middle of the road to get behind the Pathfinder and get its license number, the affidavit states.

The boy noticed the Pathfinder had a dent behind the driver’s door, the affidavit states. The boy told police he saw the driver and described him as having curly hair.

The girl told police she and the boy were passing the Pathfinder when their back window was shot out.

Police, using the license number, traced the vehicle to Thomas, documents stated.

Police went to Thomas’ home and talked with his mother. Thomas later arrived alone at the location in the Pathfinder, the affidavit states.

Thomas was arrested in connection with minor in possession. He told police he was at a friend’s residence playing video games. He identified the friend as Douglas Blake Huston, according to the affidavit.

Thomas remembered seeing the car the juveniles were in but claimed nothing happened between the two cars, according to police. Thomas told police a .45-caliber gun was held up inside the Pathfinder as he and Huston drove near Popeye’s Chicken on West Walnut Street. Thomas said he did not fire the gun and would not say who fired the gun, the affidavit states. Thomas told police Huston carried a .45-caliber pistol in his waist band, the affidavit states.

Police learned Huston had called the police department to report his 1911 .45-caliber pistol was missing. Police went to Huston’s home and asked him to come to the police department to talk about the pistol.

Police spoke with Huston’s roommate, Shane Garrett Poe. He told police Thomas and Huston were intoxicated. Huston grabbed his AK-47 rifle and his .45 pistol before he left the apartment, and Thomas took Huston’s 12-gauge shotgun, according to documents.

Poe told police the two returned one hour to 90 minutes later and Thomas was “freaking out,” the affidavit states. Thomas left after his mother called to tell him police were at their home, the affidavit states.

Police obtained a search warrant for Huston’s residence and found a black Cimarron 1911 .45-caliber pistol with a brown handle in a drawer in the dining room area, the affidavit states.

Thomas was being held Sunday in the Benton County Jail on a $75,000 bond. Huston is awaiting a bond hearing.
