Ozark Natural Science Center to suspend operations

Ozark Natural Science Center, a nonprofit environmental education and conference facility in Madison County, plans to suspend operations in May, said Jenny Harmon, interim executive director.

“It is a decision we have been working on for several months,” Harmon said.

Many participating schools, including those in Northwest Arkansas, received letters today about the suspension, Harmon said. Letters will go out this week to schools in Little Rock and Oklahoma.

The center began hosting a summer camp for school-age children in 1992 and followed with an overnight program for schools in 1994, Harmon said.

The center plans to provide more information in a news release Tuesday or Wednesday, Harmon said.

The center has 12 employees in full-time and part-time positions, she said.
