Man Accused of Assault on Hotel Housekeeper

— A Sugarland, Texas, man was arrested Thursday in connection with sexually assaulting a hotel maid last year.

Vamshi Kyatham, 39, was arrested in connection with sexual assault in the second degree, a class B felony punishable with a prison sentence ranging from five to 20 years.

Kyatham’s arrest was in connection with an incident at Hyatt Place Hotel in Rogers, according to court documents.

Police were called to the hotel at 10:37 a.m. Nov. 24. The housekeeper said she was cleaning Kyatham’s room while he was there, according to the affidavit. The woman reported Kyatham came up behind her, grabbed her and then started kissing her and pulling on her shirt, according to the affidavit.

The woman reported she tried to get to the door. Kyatham asked if she would come back to the room and she said she would, but only did so because she was scared and wanted to get out of the room, according to court documents.

Kyatham admitted having sexual contact with the woman, but described it as a moment of excitement on his and the woman’s part, according to court documents.

Kyatham told police he was married and was in town on a business trip.

Another hotel employee said the woman was crying, shaking and visibly upset after she left the room. The other employee told police the woman told her Kyatham assaulted her, according to court documents.

Kyatham was being held in the Benton County Jail with no bond set on Friday.

He was not arrested in November, but Rogers police later sought a warrant for his arrest. Kyatham was arrested Thursday at Northwest Arkansas Regional Airport in Highfill when he returned to the area, said Rogers police Capt. Ron Largent.
