Glassman selected for Crystal Bridges board

Elizabeth Glassman, president and chief executive officer of the Terra Foundation for American Art in Chicago, was recently appointed to the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art board of directors, museum officials announced Thursday.

Since Glassman joined the Terra Foundation in 2001, the organization has awarded about $45 million in grants for some 450 exhibitions and scholarly programs in more than 30 countries. She also oversees the foundation’s renowned American art collection, which continues to grow and be shown at venues around the world.

“Liz has been a wonderful adviser and confidant on a casual basis throughout the progress and development of Crystal Bridges,” said Alice Walton, board chairman.“She’ll be an excellent fit to bring additional professional expertise and counsel.”

Crystal Bridges is collaborating closely with the Terra Foundation on several multiyear projects also involving The Louvre in Paris and the High Museum in Atlanta. The series, American Encounters: Genre Painting and Everyday Life, will travel to each of the partner museums through Jan. 14, 2014.

“Liz has shown extraordinary support for the museum,” Walton continued in the news release. “Her knowledge of American art and dedication to furthering the scholarship of American art history will make her an invaluable addition to our board. We are looking forward to working with her and welcome her extensive expertise.”
