Young's late shot saves Arkansas

FAYETTEVILLE — BJ Young did it again.

After scoring seven points in the final 29 seconds of a comeback win over Missouri last weekend, the sophomore twisted and contorted his way to a game-winning layup with 5.3 seconds remaining as Arkansas beat Georgia 62-60 Thursday night at Bud Walton Arena.

It was Young's third go-ahead shot in the final minute of a game this season, having also done so against Oklahoma in December. He finished the game with eight points, bailing out Arkansas in a game it led by as many as 13 points in the first half.

Georgia chipped away at the lead the entire second half before staking a 56-53 advantage on Kentavious Caldwell-Pope's 3-pointer with 2:31 remaining.

Marshawn Powell, who sat for the majority of the second half with foul trouble, tied the game with a 3-pointer with 1:56 to play and gave the Razorbacks the lead on their next possession with a basket and foul, but missed the free throw. The reigning SEC player of the week finished with 11 points.

The Razorbacks (17-9, 8-5 SEC) won their third consecutive game and improved to 7-0 in conference games at Bud Walton Arena.

Georgia tied the game 60-60 on two free throws by Caldwell-Pope with 33 seconds remaining. The Bulldogs (12-14, 6-7) had a chance to tie the game at the buzzer, but Vincent Williams' shot was no good.

Freshman guard Anthlon Bell sparked Arkansas in the first half, hitting his first three 3-point attempts. Bell finished with a career-high 17 points, but didn't play the game's final 11:40.

The Razorbacks' defense frustrated Georgia in the first half, holding the Bulldogs to 4 of 22 shooting. Arkansas led 28-18 at halftime.

Caldwell-Pope scored a team-high 15 points for Georgia, all of which came after halftime. Sherrard Brantley added 10.

Arkansas will play at No. 5 Florida on Saturday in a rematch of a game the Razorbacks won 80-69 earlier this month when the Gators were ranked No. 2.
