Sheriff’s office: Death of McCready suicide

— Country music singer Mindy McCready’s death was a suicide, preliminary autopsy results show.

McCready, whose real first name was Malinda, died from a single gunshot wound in the head, the Cleburne County sheriff’s office said in a one-sentence news release Wednesday.

Deputies responding to reports of gunshots found the body of McCready, 37, on the front porch of her Heber Springs home Sunday afternoon.

McCready’s live-in boyfriend, David Wilson, died of a gunshot wound at the house on Jan. 13. His shooting, originally described as self-inflicted, remains under investigation.

McCready had a troubled past that included arrests, drug addiction, mental illness, suicide attempts and custody battles over her older son. In early February, she lost custody of both of her sons, ages 6 years and 10 months.

McCready recorded five albums during her career, which began in 1995. She recorded 12 songs that made the Billboard country singles chart, including the 1996 No. 1 hit “Guys Do It All the Time.”
