— Hole-in-one for Kimbrel, man cave

Craig Kimbrel keeps baseballs from key moments in his career.

Now he’s adding a much smaller ball to his collection.

The Atlanta Braves’ All-Star closer hit his first hole-in-one on the ChampionsGate Golf Club during Monday’s Tim Hudson-Chipper Jones Birdies and Baseball charity tournament in Lake Buena Vista, Fla.

Using a 4-iron, Kimbrel hit the ball 180 yards into the wind on the par-3 second hole and the ball sailed directly into the hole.

“It would have been more exciting if I would have known it went in from the tee box,” Kimbrel said at his locker after practice Tuesday. “There was a bunker right in front of the hole . . . The ball just disappeared, so my first instinct - and I play a lot of golf - is that it went into the bunker.”

Kimbrel, though, was able to avoid a tradition associated withhitting an ace: buying people drinks afterward.

“It was an open bar becauseit was an event, so I bought everybody’s drinks,” Kimbrel said, laughing. “All the guys I was playing with, they were ragging me, ‘You’re lucky it’s an open bar.’ ”

Kimbrel, who won a box of golf balls as closest to the pin, already has the flag from the hole, which he’ll sign and frame with the date and course information. The ChampionsGate Golf Club is also sending him a plaque to place the ball on.

“I got something for the man cave,” he said.

Riding high

Jerry Jones never needs a limo when he arrives at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis.

He’s got a bus. A blue and silver chariot with a large star on it.

Now he’s got a new one.

David Moore of the Dallas Morning News reports the Cowboys have rolled out a brand new bus/motor home in Indianapolis. The club uses it to haul personnel around town and meet with people.

According to Moore, the new ride is called “The Elegant Lady” and its price tag is expected to fall between $1.5 million and$2.5 million. The old bus, still in service according to the report, logged more than two million miles with driver Emory Tyler at the wheel.

Jail time

Thanks to a $6 million donation, Florida Atlantic University has announced their brand-new stadium will be dubbed “GEO Group Stadium.” GEO is the country’s second largest operator of for-profit prisons.

California basketball coach Mike Montgomery shoved junior Allen Crabbe during a heated timeout exchange in a victory over Southern California on Sunday. Montgomery has since apologized for the “inappropriate” behavior.

Wrote Reggie Hayes of The News-Sentinel of Fort Wayne, Ind.: “As punishment, for the next three games he will be referred to as Michael Montgomery Knight.”Quote of the day
