— 100 YEARS AGO Feb. 21, 1913

C.W. Clark of the Clark Pressed Brick Company of Little Rock, sent by parcel post this morning a brick of local manufacture to be used in building a brick house at the Coliseum at Chicago during the Clay Products Exposition. This brick will be one of 25,000 sent by parcel post from every brick plant in the United States to be used in the construction of this house, which will be given away and re-erected after the exposition. A record will be kept of each brick from the time it is mailed until it is delivered in Chicago in order to see how speedily Uncle Sam can deliver a brick house by mail.

50 YEARS AGO Feb. 21, 1963

The State Highway Department’s maintenance division believes its anti-litter campaign may be paying off. A report released by R.B. Winfrey, division engineer, showed the department spent a total of $55,122.23 last year for rubbish collections along main highways. Winfrey said this was the lowest since his division began keeping records on rubbish pickups three years ago.

25 YEARS AGO Feb. 21, 1988

The main question about Gov. Bill Clinton’s initiated act for stronger ethics legislation is whether the proposed 460-word ballot title is too long. Attorney General Steve Clark said Saturday. Clinton hand-delivered the 22-page initiated act to Clark in the attorney general’s downtown office at 3 p.m. Saturday. Clark promised to either approve the popular name and ballot title of the proposed act or suggest substitutions by noon Monday.

10 YEARS AGO Feb. 21, 2003

A Senate committee on Wednesday recommended a bill to prohibit human cloning in Arkansas. The Public Health, Welfare and Labor Committee sent Senate Bill 185 by Sen. Jack Critcher, D-Grubbs, to the Senate after hearing from a Little Rock doctor who supports it. No one opposed it. The bill would make it illegal for any person or public or private entity to perform or attempt to perform human cloning, or participate in an attempt to perform human cloning. The penalty would be three to 10 years in prison and a fine up to $10,000.
