— BASKETBALL Powell SEC player of the week

Arkansas redshirt junior forward Marshawn Powell was named the SEC player of the week Monday after averaging 22.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.5 blocked shots in the Razorbacks’ victories over Auburn and Missouri.

Powell had 20 points and nine rebounds in the Razorbacks’ 83-75 victory at Auburn - their first road victory this season - and came back with 24 points in their 73-71 victory over Missouri at Walton Arena.

It’s the first time Powell has scored 20 or more points in back-to-back games since his true freshman season in 2009-2010, when he had 26 against South Carolina and 23 against Auburn.

Arkansas-Kentucky game sold out

The Arkansas-Kentucky game March 2 at Walton Arena in Fayetteville is a sellout, the UA announced Monday. It’s the second sellout this season - along with the Razorbacks’ 73-71 victory over Missouri on Saturday - and fourth in Mike Anderson’s two seasons as coach. The Michigan and Florida games also were Walton Arena sellouts last season.

Student tickets not claimed by Razorback Access Pass holders will be made available to the general student body for $10 at approximately 2:45 p.m. the day of the Arkansas-Kentucky game, according to the UA. All student tickets must be purchased at the East entrance to Walton Arena with cash only and a valid student ID.

Arkansas State’s Peterson earns Sun Belt honor

Arkansas State senior forward Brandon Peterson has been named the Sun Belt Conference’s men’s player of the week.

Peterson averaged 15.5 points, 11.5 rebounds, 1.5 blocked shots, 1.5 assists, and 1.5 steals per game in victories against UALR and Louisiana-Monroe. Against UALR, he had a game highs in points (20) and rebounds (13).

Arkansas Tech’s Silva honored by GAC

Arkansas Tech’s Roslis Silva was named Great American Conference player of the week after an 18-point, 9-steal performance against Ouachita Baptist and a 25-point, 6-steal performance against Henderson State.

Rakestraw earns academic honor

John Brown guard Coleson Rakestraw has been named first-team Capital One Academic All-America College Division Men’s Basketball Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Rakestraw, an electrical and computer engineering major from Siloam Springs, has a 3.92 grade-point average.

FOOTBALL UCA releases 2013 schedule

Central Arkansas released its 2013 football schedule Monday and it is highlighted by a trip to Colorado on Sept. 7 and the regular-season finale against two-time defending Football Championship Subdivision runner-up Sam Houston State on Nov. 23 at Estes Stadium in Conway.

UCA has six home dates, beginning with Incarnate Word on Thursday, Aug. 29. The nonconference schedule for the Bears, who finished 9-3 last season and reached the second round of the FCS playoffs, also features road games at Tennessee-Martin (Sept. 14) and Missouri State (Sept. 21) and a home date with NCAA Division II Nebraska-Kearney on Oct. 12.

The Bears begin Southland Conference play against McNeese State at home Oct. 5.
