Singer McCready, 37, found dead in Heber Springs

The Cleburne County sheriff’s office is investigating the death Sunday of country singer Mindy McCready, whose body was found by deputies at a Heber Springs home.

A statement released Sunday evening said deputies arrived at a home McCready was living in at 1132 Fox Chase Drive at 3:58 p.m. and discovered her body on the frontporch of the residence. She was pronounced dead at the scene “from what appears to be a single self-inflicted gunshot wound,” the statement read.

McCready, 37, recorded five albums over a career that began in 1995. She recorded 12 songs that made the Billboard country singles chart, including the 1996 No. 1 hit “Guys Do It All the Time.”

McCready’s live-in boyfriend, David Wilson, died of a gunshot wound at the Heber Springs house on Jan. 13. His shooting, which was originally reported as self-inflicted, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office, remains under investigation.

The sheriff’s office statement Sunday said McCready’s death is under investigation and her body will be taken to the state Crime Laboratory for an autopsy.
