Composer Higdon to appear in LR

— Jennifer Higdon, whose works are some of the most performed among living American composers, will speak at the University of Arkansas Clinton School of Public Service on Friday in a lecture co-sponsored by the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra.

Higdon’s list of commissioners and performing organizations includes the Cleveland Orchestra, the Philadelphia Orchestra, Tokyo String Quartet, the London Philharmonic Orchestra and the President’s Own Marine Band, among others.

Higdon received the 2010 Pulitzer Prize in Music for her Violin Concerto, with the committee citing her work as a “deeply engaging piece that combines flowing lyricism with dazzling virtuosity.”

Those attending the noon to 1 p.m. lecture in Sturgis Hall may take lunches. Drinks will be provided. Seats can be reserved by e-mailing [email protected], or calling (501) 683-5239.
