School Board To Consider Superintendent’s Resignation

— The School Board will consider Superintendent Megan Witonski’s resignation at Tuesday’s meeting.

Witonski is taking the position of deputy superintendent for the Springdale School District. She will succeed Hartzell Jones who is retiring after 44 years in education.

Jones’ contract ends June 30. Witonski is expected to begin her new assignment July 1.

“We are sorry to see her go but she will do well in her new position,” said Bryan Delozier, board president.

The district posted the job opening with the Arkansas Association of Education Administrators.

The Springdale School Board hired Witonski on Tuesday.

Witonski coordinated a successful millage campaign in 2011 to build a new Elkins High School, which is under construction. The measure passed with 67 percent of the vote.

She came to Elkins nearly three years ago after serving as superintendent in the Wickes School District.

The board meets at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the administration building.
