Escape To Murder

‘Hickory Dickory Dead’ a mysterious getaway

Amurder mystery is unfolding at the Fort Smith Little Theatre.

Director Rikkee Black says “Hickory Dickory Dead” takes place in present day at a lodge getaway in the woods, where two sisters who haven’t seen each other in six years are having a mini reunion. While they are staying there, they get snowed in and find a dead body, she says.

The guests at Hickory Dickory Inn all have something to hide, and the sisters try to figure out who committed the murder and still reconnect themselves.

Some of the other characters include Eddie Mason (Joe Graham), co-owner of the Hickory Dickory Inn, and married couple Keeky and Clark Curtis (Micki Voelkeland Duff Taylor).

The sisters are completely different, Black says. Connie, played by Melissa Vitale, works for a police department and is more straitlaced.

Regan, played by Valerie Baldwin, is into horoscopes and more mystical in nature.

She wants to have a seance to bring the dead person back and find out who killed him, Black adds.

“I kind of have a thing for murder mysteries,” Black says of the reason she chose the production.

She adds that she didn’t know it was going to be so funny when she read it, noting that it’s pretty light for a murder mystery. The audience never sees the dead body. It is a family-oriented show that is easy to follow and anyone can enjoy it, she says.

Audience members may be guessing who committedthe crime until the end of the show. There are hints throughout the production, and everyone is suspected for one reason or another, she says. She adds that she believes any play is kind of a getaway, so playgoers can escape from reality, be entertained and try to figure out the mystery.
