Cabela’s Hosts Free Seminars

A day of free fishing seminars is set for Saturday at Cabela’s in Rogers.

Trolling for early-season walleyes will be at 10 a.m. Don Gross, a Beaver Lake walleye angler, is the speaker.

Using Shad Raps for big bass is set for 11:30 a.m., presented by Chris Johnson, Cabela’s fishing-department manager.

Jason Piper, who guides for crappie at Beaver, will talk about early-season crappie fishing at 1 p.m.

Simple techniques for trout is at 3 p.m., presented by Don Gross.

Also, a fly fishing video from the International Fly Fishing Federation will be shown throughout the day on Saturday and Sunday.

Programs on various outdoor topics are scheduled at the top of each hour from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

Fayetteville Trail Needs Volunteers

Volunteers are needed at 9 a.m. on Saturday to help the Ozark Off-Road Cyclists finish a new 2-mile section of the Lake Fayetteville Trail.

Meet at Veterans Park.

Work involves mainly raking and tweaking the trail. Tools are provided and chili will be served for lunch.

Guys, Gals Circuit Sets Meeting

The Beaver Lake Guys and Gals bass club will hold a preseason meeting at 6 p.m.

on Saturday at Jim’s Razorback Pizza, 1528 W.

Sunset, in Springdale.

Anglers who want to fish in club tournaments this season should attend.

Fly Fishers Teach New Anglers

Tightlines Fly Fishers will hold a four-session introduction to fly fishing class that begins at 7 p.m. on Tuesday at Cabela’s in Rogers.

The class will meet on four consecutive Tuesdays and end with a fifth meeting that will be a fly fishing trip. Classroom activities include a fly tying demonstration, knot tying, reading water and where to go fishing in the region.

Cost is a $25 donation to Reel Recovery, a fly fishing retreat for male cancer survivors.

Resort Hosts Trout Tournament

The final trout tournament of the season at Lilley’s Landing on Lake Taneycomo near Branson will be Feb. 23.

Entry fee is $50 per two-angler team. Only artificial lures may be used and the tournament is catch and release.

Trail To Benefit From Habitat Work

Wildlife-habitat improvement work is set for 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

on March 2 along the Eagle Watch Nature Trail at Swepco Lake.

Activities include removing woody plants from a prairie restoration area, removal of saplings from fence rows and taking out a section of barbedwire fence.

Michelle Viney, with Audubon Arkansas, and Terry Stanfill, trail manager, will lead the project.

Volunteers should bring tools if possible, such as chain saws, loppers and garden tools.
