— A man who authorities say pretended to be a lawyer has been arrested.

Anthony Calderon, 51, was arrested Monday by the Hope Police Department, according to Capt. Richard Farris of the Springdale Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division.

Calderon of 703 W. Fifth St. in Hope was arrested on a felony warrant for theft of property by deception, he said.

Several people claimed Calderon represented them as an attorney in various courts, according to a Springdale police news release. The people, primarily undocumented immigrants who don’t speak English, paid Calderon to represent them. He is not an attorney, according to a release.

Calderon was transferred from the Hempstead County Detention Center on Monday to the Washington County Detention Center. He was released Monday on $50,000 bond.
