Arkansas broadcasters dig in to block zombie alerts

— Warnings about marauding zombies tend to result in amusement, but Arkansas broadcasters aren't laughing about security flaws that may open their systems to hackers.

A hacker used emergency alert systems in Michigan and Montana to broadcast warnings about attacking zombies this week, and that prompted the Arkansas Broadcasters Association on Wednesday to advise members on how to block similar intrusions.

The group shared a bulletin from the Federal Communications Commission on steps to take to ensure the security of emergency alert systems.

The ABA noted that a hacker could disseminate a genuinely alarming message so, it's important for broadcasters to block any future attempts at launching hoax alerts.
