HOT SPRINGS - Sheriff R. L. Williams today ordered all clubhouses in Hot Springs to close and keep closed during the rest of his administration. This state was taken partly because the sheriff does not believe Chief of Police Leonard is sincere in his order given to the police last night to stop gambling in Hot Springs. Mayor Waters issued an order to Chief of Police Leonard to close all the clubs. About a month ago, Chief Leonard supplemented that edict with an order of his own. The clubs closed for a time, and when they reopened, it was behind closed doors.

RUSSELLVILLE - The United States will be the first country to land men on the moon. This was the prediction of three top representatives of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration at the Nuclear Space Conference, which opened at Arkansas Tech last night. Discussing details of the buildup to lunar flight, the three men said that if all goes well Gemini flights will begin within a matter of months. These flights will lead to the Apollo series, which will land two men on the moon.

But if we owe an apology to anybody, it’s to the people down south,” said Allen Lee, meteorologist-in-charge at the North Little Rock station. The weather service was predicting rain for most of southern Arkansas.
