State index falls, settles at 262.10

The Arkansas Index, a price-weighted index that tracks the largest public companies based in the state, fell 1.79 to 262.10 Monday.

“The major averages traded lower throughout the session as investors took a breather from a six week-long rally, ending the day with modest losses,” said Bob Williams, senior vice president and managing director of Delta Trust Investments Inc. in Little Rock. “Arkansas equities lagged slightly with declining stocks leading advancing issues by [a] 5-to-3” ratio.

Overall trading activity in the index components was low, with the exception of USA Truck, which fell just over 3 percent on above-average volume.

The index was developed by Bloomberg News and the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette with a base value of 100 as of Dec. 30, 1997.
