Bentonville Man Sentenced To 30 Years In Prison

— A Bentonville man was sentenced to 30 years in prison on Monday for charges related to a standoff with police last year.

Lincoln Todd Estill, 38, pleaded guilty to aggravated assault, endangering the welfare of a minor in the first degree and possession of firearm by certain persons, all felonies. Estill was charged as a habitual offender.

The plea came under an agreement Sarah Ashley, deputy public defender, reached with Nathan Smith, deputy prosecutor.

Estill was arrested Feb. 28, 2012.

Ruth Leflar, Estill’s girlfriend, called 911 after Estill fired gunshots inside their home at 3400 S.W. Landau Court, No. 2, according to a probable cause affidavit. Leflar said Estill threatened to commit suicide and fired two gunshots before she left the home with her children, according to court documents.

An unarmed Estill surrendered to police after a standoff that lasted more than four hours, according to court documents.

Police found a .22-caliber rifle, a .380 pistol and an air pistol in the home, according to court documents. Police also found four bullet holes in the home’s ceiling and walls, the affidavit states.

The affidavit states Estill displayed paranoid behavior during conversations with police negotiators. Estill told negotiators to warn the SWAT team he was a good shot. “Tell them to watch their heads. I’ve got 10 rounds,” Estill said according to the affidavit.

Circuit Judge Robin Green accepted the plea agreement and Estill’s guilty pleas.

Estill was sentenced to 30 years in the Arkansas Department of Correction. He must serve five years before he will be eligible for parole. He must abide by a suspended-sentence agreement for 12 years after his release from prison. Estill also must pay $1,620 in court costs and can not to have any contact with Leflar and her two children.
