Pulaski Tech to raise tuition

Pulaski Technical College will increase tuition 5.5 percent for the 2013-14 academic year.

Under the new tuition and fee schedule, a full-time student taking 15 credit hours will pay about $1,781 for a semester, depending on the course of study.

Increasing tuition from $90 to $95 per credit hour is expected to raise about $1.2 million in additional revenue for the 12,000-student college, Pulaski Tech said in a news release.

Trustees also recently approved the following fee changes:

A new technology fee of $7 per credit hour to help maintain and expand student computer facilities, academic technologies, web-based services and campus-wide technology projects.

A new library fee of $10 per semester to cover the cost of maintaining library hardware and software, student printing, and subscription costs for journals and databases.

An increase in the special course fee from $15 to $30 per course.

The fee to take the COMPASS college-placement test will increase from $10 to $20, and the cost to retake the test will increase from $5 to $10. However, as an incentive to get students to prepare before taking the assessment, the college will waive the test fee for first-time students who complete a COMPASS preparation program either online or at one of the college’s sites.

UA’s food pantry celebrates 2 years

The University of Arkansas at Fayetteville’s FullCircle Campus Food Pantry celebrated two years of operation this past week.

The emergency food assistance program distributes food and personal products to all members of the University of Arkansas community.

In its first year of operation Full Circle took in more than 16,000 pounds of donations, UA said in a news release. In the 2012 fall semester, the pantry more than doubled that amount with 37,000 pounds of donations collected from August to December.

The student-led operation placed second in President Barack Obama’s Campus Champions for Change Challenge in March 2012, which earned the student committee a trip to the White House.
