Beebe signs guns in church bill into law

— Gov. Mike Beebe signed Senate Bill 71 into law Monday, permitting concealed handguns in churches and other houses of worship.

The bill, titled The Church Protection Act of 2013, was signed into law as Act 67 by Beebe at noon Monday, according to the Arkansas Legislature website.

Rep. Nate Bell R-Mena, said on his Facebook page the law takes effect immediately.

"Arkansas churches are now free to establish their own security policy regarding possession of concealed handguns on their premises," Bell's status read. "Churches wishing to bar licensed carry do not need to take any action as churches remain prohibited places unless the church specifically chooses another policy."
