PUBLIC VIEWPOINT: Guns Have Replaced God In Schools

It is common knowledge no people agree on every subject. Therefore, there will be many who acknowledge, with good graces, some of the recent activity of our state Legislature and those who take aim at some of their actions.

Mostly, I’d like to applaud them for their anti-abortion bill (Our law is against murder, yet has allowed killing of millions of unborn babies) and pray it will stand.

In light of the recent gun-related activity in our nation, I understand the state Legislature bringing this up. The representative from Green Forest had a shooting at a rural church in her area some time ago, and felt the need was there. At least, churches are given the right to choose to carry arms.

I ask this, though: Do you ever recall a sword being carried into a temple or tabernacle in the New Testament? A whip (Jesus), yes, but not quite the same thing.

It was noted that church offices had been robbed, but not while church officials were there, thus requiring guns.

As for arming college professors, 300 signatures petitioning against it were presented and ignored.

Armed guards at schools?

Remember, there was a guard at Columbine. Why not electronically-secured-exits that would notify if metal passed through?

Proverbs 3:21 - Do not envy a violent man or “choose any of his ways.”

We have become a nation that has replaced God in our schools with guns.

Forty-eight percent of our populace have no religious affiliation.

THE CLOCKS?

This is in response to Susan Hamilton’s letter on Feb. 5.

She states “When the Second Amendment was enacted in 1791, there was no such thing as an assault weapon.” I think she means rifle, but that’s beside the point.

OK, that’s fine. Also in 1791, women couldn’t vote and slavery was legal. When the First Amendment was enacted, there were no 24-hour cable news networks, iPhones, Internet, cars, gangsta rap, video games, prescription antidepressants, etc.

No where in the Constitution is it written “the right to own an iPhone shall not be infringed.”

What is written is “the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.”
