Policeman kills Pocahontas man

— The Arkansas State Police is investigating the shooting death of a Pocahontas man by a police officer, state police spokesman Bill Sadler said.

Jonathan Tims, 27, was fatally shot late Thursday evening on Newberry Road off U.S. 62 in southwest Pocahontas, Sadler said. He did not name the Pocahontas police officer involved.

A spokesman for the Pocahontas Police Department referred calls to the state police.

Sadler said police had responded to a residence on Newberry Road about midnight after receiving a call about a domestic assault involving Tims and his girlfriend.

When officers attempted to arrest Tims, the shooting occurred, Sadler said.

No officer was injured.

Sadler said the Pocahontas Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division requested a state police review to determine if the shooting was justified. Once the investigation is completed, officers will turn it over to 3rd Judicial District Prosecuting Attorney Henry Boyce, Sadler said.
