Cherokee Nation to visit state, issue updated ID cards

The Cherokee Nation will visit cities in Arkansas beginning this weekend to meet with citizens of its federally recognized government and give them a chance to upgrade their tribal citizenship cards.

Meetings in Rogers and Van Buren are set for this weekend.

More than 9,000 of the new photo IDs, known as “blue cards,” have been issued in at least seven states since October, the Cherokee Nation said in a statement.

In order to receive the new cards, citizens must bring proof of ID, their citizenship cards and their Certificate Degree of Indian Blood cards, also known as “white cards.”
