— Items were stolen from two vehicles parked near the Bentonville Public Library on Tuesday night, according to police reports.

A man threw a brick through the window of a library employee’s vehicle about 7:30 p.m. The vehicle was in a staff parking area, according to the report. The employee’s purse was stolen. It was found and returned Wednesday afternoon, said Hadi Dudley, library director.

A woman also reported someone stole her purse, wallet and phone from her unlocked vehicle about 7:30 p.m. while it was parked at Crossfit Northwest Arkansas across the street from the library.

The library is at 405 S. Main St. Crossfit is at 500 S. Main St.

Police officers took fingerprints from the vehicles and reviewed surveillance video from cameras at the library.

Dudley said library employees always walk to their vehicles together at night for increased safety. Police officers routinely walk through the library and patrol around the building.

“We always want to make sure people feel safe and comfortable here at the library,” Dudley said.
