Cradduck Says Sting Represents Beginning Of Local Partnerships To Reduce Drug Activity

— A drug sting Feb. 1 in rural Rogers netted arrests of 10 people, Benton County Sheriff Kelley Cradduck said Wednesday.

Cradduck displayed two tables with cash, drug paraphernalia, pills, marijuana and methamphetamine valued at $18,000, all seized during the operation, during a news conference Wednesday. Seven people were arrested on site during the Feb. 1 sting and three others were arrested later. The investigation is ongoing and started through leads developed from the Special Operations Division, Cradduck said.

Drug activity was suspected at the home of a person released on parole and when the Arkansas Department of Correction did a home visit officers found more than a parole violation. A loaded 9 mm pistol, more than 165 grams of methamphetamine, 21 grams of marijuana, 49 pharmaceutical pills and $10,859 were seized. The home had surveillance cameras linked to a large, flat-screen television. A car and a sport utility vehicle were also seized.

About 4 ounces of the seized methamphetamine was undiluted and hadn’t been prepared for sale, said Sgt. Andy Lee. Scales and packaging material were among the items seized.

“These will be charges that we will also consider going federal with because there are firearms involved,” Cradduck said, adding he will look to the prosecutor's office for guidance.

The Special Operations Division has 20 officers from the narcotics unit, gang unit, street crimes and a DWI unit. Offices for those units are together, and deputies are sharing information in an effort to make more arrests, said Capt. Brandon Rogers, head of the division. The division has served five search warrants and made 70 arrests just during the month of January, Cradduck said.

“We get tons of information that comes in every day on drug activity,” Cradduck said.

The division will sift through drug reports to close cases, he said.

Cradduck said the sting represents the beginning of local partnerships to reduce drug activity.

“We are teaming up with other agencies across Northwest Arkansas and we intend to put a dent in it in our area,” he said.
