Several injured in Scott County bus crash

A Jefferson Lines bus carrying 16 passengers crashed at about 6 a.m. in rural Scott County.

Six to eight people, including the bus driver, suffered minor injuries when the vehicle ran off U.S. 71, said Dan Ronan, a spokesman for the American Bus Association, a trade association based in Washington, D.C.

Ronan said he had few details about the accident at 11 a.m. today.

Bill Sadler, a spokesman for the Arkansas State Police, said a trooper was still at the scene and no accident report was available yet.

Ron Cox, a dispatcher with the Scott County Sheriff's Office, said the vehicle didn't overturn after leaving the highway.

"It just ran off the side of the road and through some bushes there," he said.

The bus was traveling from Kansas City, Mo., and had stopped in Fort Smith to pick up passengers before continuing toward Texarkana, Ark., said Ronan.

The cause of the accident hadn't been determined as of 11 a.m. today.
