7A/6A-CENTRAL BOYS

Parkview rolls past Catholic

— Anton Beard scored a game-high 21 points as host Little Rock Parkview’s boys outpaced Little Rock Catholic 73-28 on Tuesday night.

Catholic (2-13, 1-7 7A/6ACentral) had seven turnovers in the first quarter, and Parkview (14-2, 9-1) ended the period on a 12-0 run for a 16-6 lead. Carter Morse, Catholic’s starting guard, went down with an ankle sprain in the first quarter and didn’t return.

Beard took control in the second quarter and scored seven unanswered points. The Patriots blocked two Catholic shots to end the first half and led 34-16.

Parkview Coach Al Flanigan said he was not pleased with his team’s defensive effort and unorganized offense in the first half.

“I woke them up [at halftime],” Flanigan said.

Parkview outscored Catholic 29-10 in the third quarter. Catholic had seven turnovers in the period, and Parkview increased its lead with points in transition. The mercy rule of a continuously running clock was in effect the entire fourth quarter. Beard started the final quarter with two three-pointers and kept the Patriots momentum going.

“I was satisfied with the second half,” Flanigan said. “We had pace, we got turnovers, we got up the line of pressure.”

Jaylen Franklin added 14 points for Parkview. Mitchell Luther led Catholic with nine points. Catholic finished with 21 turnovers to Parkview’s four.
