Police: Man used gun on child to get drugs

FORT SMITH - A Paris man purportedly threatened a small child with a shotgun Wednesday to persuade the child’s mother to hand over her prescription drugs, according to a Fort Smith Police Department news release.

Ethan Lovelace, 21, was arrested Friday morning while hiding in a storage building behind a house in north Fort Smith, according to the release.

He was being held without bond in the SebastianCounty jail on charges of refusing to submit to arrest, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of drug paraphernalia with intent to manufacture methamphetamine, possession of a controlled substance, parole violation and absconding.

Lovelace was wanted in Logan County for a robbery Wednesday during which he purportedly threatened the child with a sawed-off shotgun, according to the news release.

Logan County deputiesdid not return calls Friday requesting details about the robbery.

Fort Smith police received information that Lovelace, who was believed to be armed, was in Fort Smith and officers were directed to a residence in the 3700 block of Morris Drive, the news release stated.

After arresting Lovelace, officers found several items of drug paraphernalia consistent with the manufacture of methamphetamine and Roxicodone, according to the news release.
