Where I live: We live on a little less than 10 acres on the side of a hill just below the Whitney Mountain Lodge. We were looking for a place to retire, and we had always wanted to live on a lake. Our experience had been going up to Minnesota, and it was great except for the winters. So, we started looking down here. We ended up buying the land and building our house here. We’ve got winter views of the lake. Then, in the summer, the trees all put out their leaves and we’re up in the treetops. We don’t see the lake much, but it’s very peaceful.

Occupation: Retired plant manager and president of Northwest Arkansas Aquarium Society. I’ve been doing this for almost 60 years. The club started in 2007, and I was one of the founding members. Several years ago, I became president. We’re open to anybody who keeps tropical fish in Northwest Arkansas. There are a lot of people who keep fish, and we just seem to be a different sort of breed. I’ve got 50 or 60 aquariums in the house right now. My main interest in keeping the fish is breeding the fish.

My favorite space: My chair by my display tank.

Why? It can be kind of relaxing to sit there and watch the fish. I guess there are scientific studies out there where if you have an aquarium and you sit and watch the fish your blood pressure goes down.

If I could do one thing to improve this space I would: Be a little better at making the tank look pretty.
