Half-court heave sparks Parkview

Correction: Little Rock Parkview basketball player Christyal Holloway hit a half-court shot in Friday’s 62-44 victory over Greenwood. Another Parkview player was credited with the field goal in this article.

— Little Rock Parkview’s Jalyn Davis made only one basket, but it was just the boost the Lady Patriots needed.

Davis made a shot from beyond half-court at the buzzer just before halftime Friday night to help break open a tight game in Parkview’s 62-44 victory against Greenwood at H.B. Stewart Bulldog Arena.

The shot capped a 9-3 run to end the first half and gave Parkview a 29-21 lead, and the Lady Patriots (13-3, 6-2 7A/6 A-Central) never looked back in the second half.

“We kind of practice that every now and then,” Little Rock Parkview Coach Lahoma Howard said with a laugh. “It was a big boost at halftime for us. We came out after that and played hard.”

Parkview built a 43-28 lead in the third quarter, using a 15-4 run that was keyed by the inside scoring of Sausha Davey. Davey made three consecutive baskets and found teammate Derriel Banyard on the next possession to break open the game.

“She plays inside and that’s her thing,” Howard said. “She did a good job getting to her spot and taking her time to put the ball in the hole. She can be unstoppable.”

Banyward finished with a game-high 17 points, Davey added 16, and Levrick Grigsby hit two three-point baskets while scoring 14.

The Lady Patriots took a 47-34 lead into the fourth quarter and expanded it even more by holding the Lady Bulldogs (17-5, 4-4) to 10 points in the quarter.

“Any time you can win a game on the road, that’s a good feeling,” Howard said. “We’ve been talking about stepping up and doing the fundamentals like boxing out. We slacked a little, but we regrouped and came out with a victory.”

Parkview’s Roshunda Johnson, a Oklahoma State signee, scored only six points but the team rallied as others shared the scoring.

“She got everyone else involved,” Howard said of Johnson. “She got some fouls before the half, but it made everyone refocus and regroup. I was proud of them stepping up when she wasn’t in the game.”

Greenwood’s Lundon Williams scored a team-high 14 points while Megan Hartness finished with 10.
