Fast pace suits Wampus Cats

— The Conway Wampus Cats took advantage of a speedy tempo and out ran the Russellville Cyclones in an 84-68 victory Friday at Buzz Bolding Arena.

Russellville tied the game at 19-19 on Andy Campbell’s basket to start the second quarter. Conway (13-7, 4-4 7A/6A-Central) quickly scored the next seven points and never relinquished the lead again. Justin Leon scored to make it 21-19, and Tim Boyd took and outlet pass and converted a three-point play. Boyd then made a steal and layup for a 26-19 lead.

Boyd was limited to two three-pointers, but totaled 19 points. Dominic Taylor led the Wampus Cats with 20 points, while Leon added 18 points and 12 rebounds.

Campbell was a bright spot for the struggling Cyclones (6-17, 1-7), scoring a game-high 41 points, hitting six three-pointers.
