Retired bishop

to visit St. Paul’s

FAYETTEVILLE - Retired Episcopal bishop Gene Robinson of New Hampshire will be the first McMichael Series speaker of the year at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. Robinson, the first openly gay bishop ordained in the Episcopal Church, will speak on “Being a Prophet in Times of High Anxiety” at 7 p.m. Feb. 9. A reception will begin at 6.

Robinson will also address the Adult Forum at 10 a.m. Feb. 10 in the parish hall.

The church will also host a free showing of Love Free or Die, a Sundance Awardwinning documentary about Robinson, at 7 p.m. Friday.The film follows Robinson from small-town churches in New Hampshire to London’s Lambeth Palace as he calls for equality. The film will also be shown at 1 p.m. Feb. 9 at All Saints Episcopal Church, 406 W. Central Ave., Bentonville, and Robinson will be present for discussion at that event.

Scholastica plans Lenten retreat

FORT SMITH - St. Scholastica Monastery’s retreat center will have a Lenten retreat March 1-2. The program, “A Realized Mystery: Living Our Baptismal Priesthood,” will be led by Jared Bryson, vice president of mission for Mercy Hospital in Fort Smith. Bryson has a master of divinity degree from Aquinas Institute of Theology in St. Louis and is a doctoral candidate in Christian spirituality at Washington Theological Union.

The retreat will begin at 7 p.m. March 1 and end at 4 p.m. March 2. Cost is $125 for overnight participants and $80 for commuters. Registration is available by calling (479) 783-1135 or online at stscho. org. The retreat center is at 1205 S. Albert Pike Ave.
