Several Burglaries Reported Across Fayetteville In 24 Hours

— Burglaries were reported at almost a dozen businesses and residences scattered across town, and investigators said some could be related.

Cpl. Dan Montgomery said eight burglaries were reported Monday, and police records showed a handful of other reports Sunday afternoon. Two pairs of adjacent businesses were hit, as were a pair of residences, he said.

“We’re assuming they’re related,” Montgomery said, adding the Patrol Division and Criminal Investigation Division were working together on the incidents. “They’re working to determine one, if they’re associated or related, and two, any suspects.”

OK China Buffet and Phat Tire Bike Shop on North Mall Avenue were struck. Police records show the restaurant reported a stolen computer and cash. The bicycle shop reported a register was opened and cameras were missing. Managers at the businesses were unavailable for comment.

Osburn Motor Co. and My Dentist Fayetteville, both on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard west of Interstate 540, also were hit. Neysa Horn, an office manager for the dental clinic, said it looked like the burglar or burglars left bootprints from the car lot to the clinic. Osburn Motor’s manager declined to comment.

“It was a little weird to walk in the office in the morning and find everything in disarray,” Horn said. Some cash was taken and a door appeared to be pried open, she said. “They kind of rummaged through the office, but they didn’t take anything else that we’ve noticed.”

The office’s dental records are digital and weren’t compromised, Horn said. She said the office doesn’t have cameras but would likely add one soon.

“I think we should, at least on the outside,” she said. “It’s like being violated.”

Residential addresses scattered around town also were in burglars’ sights, including two on the eastern end of Sweetbriar Drive. A caller on West Redwing Circle reported a knife set had been stolen, while another on North St. Charles Avenue reported a computer stolen after coming back from holiday travel, according to police call records.

Montgomery said people leaving town probably didn’t prompt the burglary spike.

“Not on these, anyway,” he said.
