Tuesday, December 31, 2013

Hobbs State Park-Conservation Area will host two guided First Day Hikes Wednesday.

First Day Hikes originated more than 20 years ago at the Blue Hills Reservation, a state park in Milton, Mass., according to a news release. The initiative targeted Jan. 1 to promote both healthy lifestyles throughout the year and the year-round recreation that can be experienced in state parks.

“State parks around Arkansas will join Americas State Parks’ nationwide invitation to the public to enjoy First Day Hikes by offering individuals and families the opportunity to begin the New Year rejuvenating and connecting with the outdoors by taking a healthy hike on Jan. 1, ” said Greg Butts, Arkansas State Parks director. “Enjoying a state park trail is a great way to get outside, exercise, enjoy nature, and welcome the New Year with family or friends.”

A hike of the Shaddox Hollow Trail (1.5 miles) is scheduled 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The trail is located on Arkansas 303 1 mile north of the Arkansas 12 intersection.

A hike of Sinking Stream Trail (0.5 mile) is set for 3 to 3:45 p.m. The trail is located on Arkansas 12 at Historic Van Winkle Hollow.
