ROGERS HIGH GIRLS

Rogers lost 85-47 to Greenwood in Saturday’s third-place game at the First Arkansas Bail Bonds Tournament in Mountain Home.

Rogers (3-7) and Greenwood were tied at 29 in the second quarter, but the Lady Bulldogs closed out the the first half with a 24-0 run.

The Lady Mounties opened the tourney with an impressive win over Paragould before losing to North Little Rock in the semifinals.

“The win against Paragould was a quality win for us,” said Rogers coach Preston Early. “We were as good defensively in that game as we have been all year. We made some clutch plays, and we answered every time they made runs at us. That put us in the winner’s bracket and we played two elite teams that we are just not ready for yet.

“But we are making progress, and North Little Rock and Greenwood are on another level.”

The Lady Mounties return to action Thursday when they host Fort Smith Southside at 11 a.m. in King Arena.

Crist Olsen scored a team-high 22 points, including a 3-pointer in the final two minutes, to give Rogers Heritage the lead for good en route to a 63-61 win over the Oklahoma City Storm to win the consolation final of the Mid-Del Holiday Tournament on Saturday.

Heritage (9-3) never trailed, but the Oklahoma City Storm, which is made up of home schoolers from the area, was tied late until Olsen’s 3-pointer from the corner. The War Eagles, which led 25-22 at halftime and 43-42 after three quarters, finished 2-1 in the three-day event.

Connor Hirsh was also in double figures with 16 points for Heritage.

War Eagles coach Tom Olsen was pleased with how his team responded, after a tough loss on Thursday.

“We were within an eye lash of maybe being 3-0,” Olsen said. “We came back and played really well yesterday after that disappointing loss. Then came back today against a D-1 type guard and a big kid inside and handled them OK.”

The Storm was led by 6-1 junior Chauncey Collins, who scored 21 of his game-high 27 in the second half.

Heritage will host El Dorado on Friday before opening conference play on Jan. 10 by hosting Fayetteville.
