Two men were arrested Saturday in Brinkley in connection with a string of crimes that began Christmas Day in Mississippi, according to the Arkansas State Police.

Cody Eggemeyer and Micheal Manis had been sought in an Oakland, Miss., home invasion in which the resident was tied up at gunpoint and robbed of his truck Wednesday. The truck was later found burned.

Eggemeyer, 26, and Manis, 33, were spotted Thursday night by Batesville police, who reported that the men opened fire on officers and immobilized a police vehicle before escaping. They also fired at officers in Sardis, Miss., according to Arkansas State Police, but details on that incident were not immediately available.

The two men were apprehended by state troopers and a U.S. marshal about 3:15 p.m. outside the Crown Inn at 306 N. Main St. in Brinkley.

State police spokesman Bill Sadler said “alert state troopers” on patrol recognized a vehicle at the hotel that Eggemeyer and Manis were reportedly using.

The men face charges of kidnapping, robbery, auto theftand arson. They are also suspects in a Thursday armed robbery in Helena-West Helena.

An investigation involving federal authorities and several Mississippi law enforcement agencies is ongoing, state police said.
