Van Buren man jailed in stabbing

A 34-year-old Van Buren man was arrested Thursday night on a warrant charging him in the stabbing of another Van Buren man on Christmas eve, according to the Van Buren Police Department.

Van Buren Police Lt. Brent Grill said Quan David Phung was arrested without incident by Fort Smith police at a Fort Smith residence about 9:30 p.m. Thursday after Van Buren police received information of his whereabouts.

Phung was being held in the Crawford County jail in lieu of a $250,000 bond on a charge of first-degree battery.

Phung is accused of stabbing Richard Kosier several times at a Van Buren home about 11:30 p.m. Tuesday.

On Thursday, Grill said a fight broke out between the two, but the cause of the fight still was under investigation. Further details were not available Friday.

Kosier was listed in critical but stable condition Thursday at Mercy Hospital in Fort Smith, Grill said. A spokesman for the hospital did not respond to a request Friday for a condition update.
