Jernigan to sing in Springdale

SPRINGDALE - Contemporary Christian singer/ songwriter Dennis Jernigan will help ring in the new year at Friendship Baptist Church on Tuesday. Jernigan will lead a praise and worship service with singing from 10 p.m. to midnight.

Jernigan has written hundreds of songs and is well known for “We Will Worship the Lamb of Glory,” “You Are My All in All,” “Great Is the Lord Almighty” and others.

Retreat to teach

self compassion

FORT SMITH - The St. Scholastica Monastery retreat center, 1205 S. Albert Pike Ave., will host a weekend program on compassion March 7-9. The program, “The Gift of Self Compassion,” will be led by Joyce Rupp. Deadline for registration is Feb. 21.

Rupp is a writer, international retreat leader and conference speaker. She is co-director of the Institute of Compassionate Presence.

According to retreat literature, self compassion “is essential for a healthy, loving relationship with God, self and others.” Participants will reflect on self compassion in the life of Christ and in their own lives.

Cost is $175 and includes lodging and meals. Commuter price is $120. Registration is available online at stscho.
