GOLDFISH CLASSIC Late shot lifts Batesville

LONOKE - Summer Strecker’s putback with 2.6 seconds remaining allowed Batesville to escape with a 51-49 victory over Bald Knob and earned the Lady Pioneers their first victory of the season in a first-round game played at the Gina Cox Center.

Batesville held the ball for the final 58 seconds and the Lady Pioneers (1-7) picked up the victory when Strecker rebounded a missed three-pointer and banked in a point-blank shot. Haley Hambrick scored 15 points of her points in the first half to lead Batesville, which led 33-22 at the half. Haley Cole added 13 points and Strecker finished with 10 points.

Alexus Washington led Bald Knob (4-4) with 19 points and nine rebounds. Paige Martin finished with 17 points and four steals.

ENGLAND 57, STUTTGART 31 Alesha Penister led the Lady Lions (10-1) with 15points in a victory over the Lady Ricebirds in a game played in Lonoke’s old gymnasium. Penister scored all of her points in the second half. Julia Bryant added 13 points and Shanna Shavers scored eight points and blocked 11 shots. Stephanie Gibson led Stuttgart with 15 points. England plays e-Stem in today’s semifinals.

LONOKE 50, DES ARC 21 Amanda Sexton and Jarrelyn McCall scored 12 points each and the Lady Rabbits (7-3) held the Lady Eagles scoreless in the first quarter in a first-round victory. Lonoke led 17-0 after one quarter and 31-4 at the half. Kallie Roberts led Des Arc with six points. Lonoke plays Batesville in today’s semifinals. E-STEM 48, HAZEN 17 Olivia McWilliams scored 15 of her 17 points in the first half as the Lady Mets rolled to a first-round victory over the Lady Hornets. Gia Hayes added 13 points for e-Stem.

SANDRA MEADOWS CLASSIC Conway wins a wild one

DUNCANVILLE, Texas - Sophomore Haley Estes scored four points in the final 2 seconds to lift unbeaten Conway to a 54-53 victory over McKinney (Texas) North in a second-round game.

Estes hit the front end of aone-and-one with 2.0 seconds left to pull the Lady Cats to within 53-51. She missed the second attempt, but the ball went out of bounds off a McKinney player. On the inbounds play, Estes hit a layup and was fouled. She hit the free throw to give Conway a one-point advantage with 0.3 seconds left.

Alexus Tolefree led Conway (8-0) in scoring with 14 points while Jordan Danberry added 13 and Asia Willard 10. Conway plays Plano West in today’s semifinals. In a firstround game played earlier on Thursday, Conway defeated Mesquite Horn 47-28 behind 24 points from Tolefree.

LITTLE ROCK HALL 61, THE WOODLANDS 49 Anquinette Dozier scored six of her team-high 14 points in the fourth quarter as Little Rock Hall defeated The Woodlands in a first-round game. Rakia Lane and Shakyla Hill added 11 points each for Hall, which outscored The Woodlands 16-2 in the second quarter to take a 30-20 halftime advantage. Taylor Collins added nine points for Hall. Hall will play Colleyville (Texas) Heritage in today’s second round.
