GOLDFISH CLASSIC Chapel routs Hazen

LONOKE - Leonard Robinson came off the bench to score a game-high 23 points as Watson Chapel rolled to an 82-46 victory over Hazen in a first-round game played at the Gina Cox Center.

Robinson connected on four three-pointers, which included a four-point play as the first half ended. Watson Chapel led 16-11 after one quarter but expanded its advantage to 50-20 by the end of the first half. Ben Marcus added 12 points for the Wildcats, while Sammie King added 10. Watson Chapel came up with 19 steals, including a team-high six from Tevin Brown.

Sean Hall scored 15 points to lead Hazen, and Zach Dale led the Hornets in rebounding with eight.

Watson Chapel will play Stuttgart in tonight’s semifinals.

ENGLAND 57, BALD KNOB 52 Devonte Patterson led the Lions with 19 points in a first-round victory over the Bulldogs (3-5). England led 31-15 at the half and had to hold off Bald Knob, which picked up 29 points from Elijah Conley.

STUTTGART 44, BATESVILLE 39 LaMarion Luckett scored 10 points and the Ricebirds raced out to an 11-2 advantage after the first quarter to defeat the Pioneers (0-7). Eli Childress led Batesville with 13 points, and Kenton Crawford added nine points and seven steals.

Jonesboro wins opener

FORT WORTH - Aaron Ross scored 17 points as the Jonesboro Hurricane defeated Trimble Tech of Fort Worth, 47-30, in a first-round game.

Jarma Perkins added 13 for Jonesboro while Marquise Pointer scored all 11 of his points in the first two quarters. Pointer suffered an eye injury at the beginning of the fourth quarter.

Jonesboro will play Justin (Texas) Northwest in a second-round game at 9:30 a.m.today. Northwest (12-2) defeated Richardson Berkner 71-51 in its first-round game.

SLAM DUNK AT THE HUMP Parkview falls

STARKVILLE, Miss. - The Starkville (Miss.) Yellowjackets handed Little Rock Parkview its first loss of the season Thursday, taking a 63-52 victory over the Patriots in the opening round of the Slam Dunk at the Hump.

Braelon Walker led Parkview (8-1) with 14 points while Daryl Macon scored 13 points and grabbed seven rebounds. The Patriots will play Mt. Lebanon (Pa.) in today’s consolation bracket.

Starkville improved to 6-1.

NEOSHO (MO.) HOLIDAY

Van Buren drops opener

NEOSHO, Mo. - Xavier Kurth led Lafayette, Mo., with 17 points as the Missouri team handed Van Buren its first loss of the season, 53-47, in the Neosho Holiday Tournament.

Lafayette led 23-17 at the half and extended that advantage to 36-25 entering the final quarter. Van Buren (7-1) managed to whittle Lafayette’s lead to the final six-point margin. Ryan Pearson led the Pointers with 13 points while Jason Harms and Brad Eversole added 12 each.

In other games involving teams from Arkansas, Sagemont (Fla.) defeated West Memphis, 62-41, and Bentonville defeated Springfield (Mo.) Parkview 57-38.

e-Stem stomps Brinkley

HEBER SPRINGS - Michael Clamese scored 14 points and handed out five assists as e-Stem posted a 67-46 victory over Brinkley in a first-round game.

Myron Burns added 10 points and five rebounds for the Mets (5-5), who will play Heber Springs in tonight’s semifinals. Dillion Mitchell added nine points and four assists for the winners.
