Water Line Breaks; Water Drains Into Lake Atalanta

Tuesday, December 17, 2013

— A 12-inch water main sprung a leak Friday afternoon, sending treated water into Lake Atalanta.

“We had to replace about 3 feet of pipe to repair the leak on Electric Street,” said Earl Rausch, interim superintendent of Rogers Water Utilities. It took a utility crew about four hours to repair the leak.

About 20 customers lost water service, Rausch said.

Some water from the broken water main ran into Lake Atalanta, said Barney Hayes, city parks director.

“As far as we can determine, the treated water did not cause any damage to the lake,” Hayes said.
